Energy and utilities

The grid of tomorrow cannot run on yesterday's integration.

Renewables, smart meters, new data center load and aging water systems all ask more of networks built for a different era. We build the data and API layer between operational technology and the platforms that analyze it, without touching what must not change.

In an energy company, a data problem is a reliability problem.

Where you are

Your operational network works and is protected for good reason. Your analytics and AI teams want what it knows, and your regulators want reports built from it. For a water utility, the same is true of treatment plants, pump stations and meters.

Aging OT and SCADA

They were never built to talk to modern IT.

A gap between the grid and the data platform is a reliability risk with public safety dimensions. Operators end up deciding on readings that someone exported by hand.

What waiting costs: decisions made on data that is already old.

Reporting

Filings outrun the data behind them.

FERC, state utility commission and sustainability reporting need data infrastructure many companies have not built. Each number in a filing should trace to a source, and today many trace to a spreadsheet.

What waiting costs: filings assembled by hand, with no trail behind each number.

Critical infrastructure

Every OT and IT link is exposure.

Integration points between operational and enterprise systems create risk that a standard enterprise security posture does not cover, and the NERC CIP standards set the bar for bulk electric system assets.

What waiting costs: the integration you need becomes the one you cannot approve.

New load

Data centers ask for power faster than planning runs.

Large new loads, led by data centers, are asking for connections at a pace that interconnection studies, load forecasts and capital plans were not built for. Each request needs planning, asset and field data in one place.

What waiting costs: answers that take months, and a forecast that is out of date before it is filed.

Rulebook by market

United StatesNERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards for bulk electric system cyber systems, including electronic security perimeters and information protection, approved and enforced under FERC. State public utility commissions for rates, reliability and reporting. For community water systems, risk and resilience assessments and emergency response plans under America's Water Infrastructure Act, certified to the EPA.No path from an agent or an analytics platform back into a control network, whether it runs a grid or a treatment plant. Every interface between OT and IT is documented, owned and approved. Data used in a filing carries its lineage.
United Arab EmiratesThe national Information Assurance Standards for critical information infrastructure, under the UAE Cyber Security Council, and emirate-level energy regulators such as the Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi. The same one-way, governed path, with data kept in country where the rules require it. We confirm the local rulebook at the start of every engagement.
Other marketsEach grid has its own reliability regulator and critical infrastructure rules. The questions are the same and the filings differ. We confirm the local rulebook at the start of every engagement.

What is in the way

The data sits at the edge of the grid and does not reach the people and models who could use it. Closing that gap safely means a one-way, governed path, not another direct connection.

Which of your operational systems can feed modern analytics today, and who approved the path?

One governed path out, nothing back in

Illustrative example. Operational data flows out through one governed path. Nothing flows back into the control network.

How we clear it

We open one governed, one-way path out of the operational network first, then build analytics and reporting on what flows through it.

  1. 01

A governed API layer for critical infrastructure.

Apigee between operational and enterprise systems, with policy, logging and one owner per interface.

You hold: an approved path your security team can draw on one page.

    Apigee and APIs
  2. 02

    Real-time events for grid intelligence.

Meter and asset events carried as event streams on Google Cloud into BigQuery, with the operational network untouched.

You hold: live operational data where analysts and models can use it.

    Vertex AI, BigQuery and data
  3. 03

    Reporting with lineage.

Regulatory and sustainability reports built from governed data in BigQuery, with models on Vertex AI flagging readings that fall outside the expected range.

You hold: a filing where every number traces to its source.

    Vertex AI, BigQuery and data
  4. 04

Load and capacity data in one place.

Interconnection requests, load forecasts and asset data brought together on BigQuery, with models on Vertex AI for load and capacity scenarios that planners review.

You hold one governed view your planners use to answer a large load request.

Easy to start

Start with one workflow, not a program.

You

Choose one workflow, name one owner, and give us time with the people who sign it off.

Us

We bring engineers and the gateway design, we work inside your environment under your security rules, and we write the review pack alongside the build.

A good first workflow is one reporting obligation built from one data feed, or the data behind one large load request. See the fixed-price ways to start.

What the work feels like

What the first month looks like from your side.

  1. The first week

One workflow is chosen and one person owns it. The questions your reviewers will ask are written down before any build starts. Your OT security lead approves the data path before any data moves.

  2. The first sprint

Governance goes in before the first agent does: the gateway, the audit trail and the access rules. Your risk team sees them working.

  3. Every week

A working demo you can show your own review board, not a status slide.

  4. The sign-off

A decision log that can rebuild any action, and a go-live date that was agreed at the start.

Production readiness check

Test one workflow against the five questions.

A short readiness check on a live or planned agent workflow. You get a score and the principles worth another look.

Questions we are asked before the first conversation

Do you connect to our control systems directly?

No. We design a governed, one-way path out of the operational network, and your operations and OT security teams approve it before any data moves. Nothing we build writes back into control systems.

Can models run without data leaving our environment?

Yes. Data and models stay inside the environment, region and controls you set, and every model reads governed data in place instead of a copy.

How does this work alongside NERC CIP?

Your compliance team decides how each interface sits against the CIP standards that apply to your assets. We document every interface, its owner and its controls as we build, so the evidence is ready when your auditors ask for it.

Can you work with our existing historian and SCADA vendors?

Yes. We read from a historian, replica or one-way gateway your OT team already trusts, and we do not replace the control systems underneath.

Can AI help with sustainability and emissions reporting?

Yes, when the report is built from governed data with lineage. A model can flag gaps and outliers, and a person signs the number that goes into the filing.

Do you work with water utilities?

Yes. Treatment plants and pump stations raise the same question as substations: how to get operational data out safely. We build the same one-way, governed path, and your operations team approves it before any data moves.

Can you help us answer large load requests?

We bring the planning, asset and operations data a request needs into one governed place, with models that test load and capacity scenarios. Your planners and engineers make the decision.

Show us the report your team still builds by hand.
